Summary:Vertical scroll printed on three joined strips of buff-colored laid stock. The text consists of an arrangement of letters down 26 columns at varying and progressively decreasing frequency
Item Description:Also known as "Alphabet poem"
No title, statement of responsibility, or publication information appears on the scroll. The entry for this publication in Jon Hendricks, Fluxus codex (1988), indicates that it was produced in Wiesbaden by George Maciunas in June/July 1963 (printed by F. Becker & Co), that it could be seen as one of the "Fluxus boxes" in New York in the fall of 1963, and was included in Fluxus 1, Fluxkit, and Flux-products compilations issued by Fluxus from 1964 to 1970. It was listed separately in Fluxus newspaper no. 4 as "Fluxus L1 Emmett Williams: long poem, 25 [cents]"; in later catalogs, still referred to as "long poem", it was sold at $1. Hendricks further notes: "This work was first published by Verlag Kalender, the publishing house of Bernd Ebeling and Hansjoachim Dietrich, Wuppertal, West Germany, ca. 1961."
